Sun Valley Auto Transport
GILBERT, AZ
The second-biggest snowbird state after Florida, seasonal demand and desert heat both shape the market.
Cost snapshot
Estimates use typical open-carrier market rates for a standard car, not quotes. Enclosed transport and larger vehicles cost more. Actual pricing varies by season, route and carrier availability.
Arizona is a major snowbird state, second only to Florida for seasonal inbound traffic. Phoenix and Tucson swell with winter residents each year, which drives a strong, seasonal auto-transport market with its own desert-specific considerations.
Winter residents pour into Arizona around October and November and head back out in March and April, pushing rates and wait times up in those windows. The summer months are the cheapest and easiest time to ship, because inbound demand drops off sharply once the heat arrives.
Summer highs regularly top 110°F in Phoenix. Open transport is still perfectly fine, but prep your car: check tire pressure, top off fluids, and do not leave anything heat-sensitive inside. If you are shipping a classic or high-value car, enclosed transport adds protection from sun and road heat.
The heaviest lanes are from the cold-weather Midwest and Northeast — Chicago, Minneapolis and New York down to Phoenix — carrying snowbirds and relocations. The California-to-Phoenix hop is short and cheap. These well-traveled routes book quickly outside the winter peak.
Phoenix is the state’s hub with the most carrier traffic and the best prices. Tucson is well-served too. Smaller or remote Arizona towns sit off the main interstates, so expect a higher rate and a little more lead time for pickup or delivery there.
Ship in late spring or summer for the lowest rates and easiest booking. If you need to move during the fall inbound rush or spring outbound rush, reserve two to three weeks ahead to secure capacity before prices climb.

Good to know
Late spring and summer, once the snowbird inbound rush has passed. The priciest windows are the fall arrival season (October to November) and the spring departure season (March to April).
Yes. Open carriers handle desert routes every day. Just prep your vehicle for the heat and remove anything temperature-sensitive from inside. Enclosed is optional for high-value cars.
From the Midwest, roughly 3 to 5 days; from the Northeast, about 5 to 7 days once a carrier is assigned. The California hop is just 1 to 2 days.
